Rollin' On AlrightSPAN>

Lyrics

Liner Notes

I Cast out in the water
Tonight I’ll dine by the sea
Another lonely sunset
But someday someone will love me

‘Cause I keep holding on
Holding on tight
Rollin’ on, rollin’ on alright

I’m picking songs for pesos
But seagulls never pay
My case is open but empty
But, God I love to play

I’m holding on
Holding on tight
Rollin’ on, rollin’ on alright

Ooo, rollin’ on
Ooo, rollin’ on

No money in my pocket
Not a dime to my name
But I got me a smile
And to me that’s just the same

I keep holding on
Holding on tight
Rollin’ on, rollin’ on alright

Ooo, rollin’ on
Ooo, rollin’ on and on and on and on
On and on and on

I’m rollin’ on alright

BEHIND THE MUSIC:

I wrote this song while jamming original ideas with the band Squiddog. The third verse was the first lyrics that were 'mumbled' into existence and the band helped to mold it into the 'Jimmy Buffet' island style. I recorded the song several years later refined the guitar and piano parts and played recorded them first using my Ibanez electric guitar and my Samick grand piano. I knew I could play a decent bass line, but the style of this song is a little out of my wheelhouse, so I contacted Al Ortiz who used to play with the Walt Richardson Morning Star Band and he brought the magic touch! Again, I could have played a drum pattern that would have been OK, but I was looking for a certain sound created by bundle sticks so I asked Roger Wiedabach if he could do the track for me. The other guest was Julianna Muse on background vocals. For this I was looking for the Muscle Shoals sound of a pair of soul singers and Julianna nailed it. The last elements added were the Farfisa organ sound and the harmonica.
