You have the right to speak your mind Bite your tongue before you let it lash out You're taking chances with words you say Bite your tongue before you let it lash out You'll know no peace with threats and lies Bite your tongue

CREDITS: Music and Lyrics by Lead and HarmonyVocals, Guitars, Keyboards, Bass, Drums - Mark Greenawalt BEHIND THE MUSIC: I wrote this song in August of 2021 as part of a songwriting challenge based on including the phrase 'taking chances.' I still have trouble defining what genre this song is. It really kinda' miracled out of nowhere. The lyrics started from a discussion I was having with my wife when I said "just because they have the right to say whatever they want, doesn't mean that it's right to say whatever they want." I wrote this song my son's nylon string acoustic (I believe playing different instruments inspires new songwriting opportunities). Around the time I was writing this, artist/photographer Holly Shoemaker was assembling a photo exhibition that featured people with a single demeaning slandarous word on their faces and upper torso. Each person picked the phrase that impacted them. I asked her if I could use the photos in the video for this song since it really resonated with the lyrics I had written. And not only did she say yes, but she also included me in the exhibition! TECHNICAL: ISRC - QZMEP2119703 Original tracks recorded and mixed using Logic X in Phoenix: Vocals on CAD Equitek microphone, nylon string acoustic guitar, Jackson bass., Roland V-Drums and VR-09 keyboards as input to virtual tracks within Logic.
PLACEMENTS: Lyric Video - Produced and edited by Mark Greenawalt using Premier with photography from Holly Shoemaker from her Sticks and Stones Gallery Exhibition. |
