The Last Oil Painting of the Decade
by Mark Greenawalt

Karen Render memorial song played at her funeral after a fatal car crash on Grand Avenue.

One of my New Year's Resolution for 2019 was to complete four oil paintings. I came in just under the wire with this one in December to keep my resolution. This is an oil painting on 16" X 20" canvas entitled "Water Pixie"  . It took about 4 hours to complete and I did it in two sessions.

The image is based on an underwater photo by Chris Crumley of an awesome friend of mine named Erin St Blaine dressed as a mermaid. I first met Erin at the 2006 Face And Body Art International Convention (FABAIC) in Orlando, Florida. Check out all of her mermaid costumes and DIY props and magical LED creations on her website http://www.erinstblaine.com . I did a bodypainting with Erin while we were in Florida and the image was included in my book Coats Of Paint. Erin's husband, Darrell, was one of the first people to buy a copy of my book. Later I was offering a copy of the book to anyone who donated to my Patreon account ( https://www.patreon.com/MarkGreenawalt if you are so inclined) and again Darrell was the first to respond with a very generous donation. Since he already had a copy of the book, I offered to paint an original oil painting for him instead. I let him choose what he wanted me to paint for him and he sent me the underwater photo of Erin.

I have put a timelapse video of the painting on my YouTube page if you'd like to see how this painting came together. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/Vr7ZvvzBuiw

Christina Aguilera Live In Vegas
by Mark Greenawalt

Lindsey Stirling concert photography for Warmer In The Winter Tour 2019.

My wife and I treated ourselves to a trip to Vegas to see Christina Aguilera at her The Xperience residency show at the Planet Hollywood Casino.  What an incredible voice. This was a "bucket list" show for me. I knew I couldn't get my "professional" camera in to the show so I bought a small Canon SX740 HS to get some pics of her live. The camera isn't probably the best for low light situations, but I was really impressed with the 40X optical zoom that allowed me to get some decent pics from pretty far away. We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel which was recently purchased by Richard Branson to become a Virgin Hotel and Casino. So I took some pictures of the Hard Rock before it is "no more" starting in February. Somebody recorded video of the show that we saw and it is on YouTube at https://youtu.be/V21jpUAWICY . If you'd like to see more of my shots of this and other concerts go to http://www.MarkGreenawalt.com/photo/commercial.htm .

Bringing In The New Year at Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino
by Mark Greenawalt

Nineball with guest Mark Greenawalt on gold top les paul and keyboards at Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino in Arizona.

I got to ring in the New Year playing with the band Nineball at Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino. The gig was from 8pm until 2am which is equivalent to about 90 songs. Oh, and here is the kicker, that was six hours of music...and no breaks. To help make that happen, the four members of Nineball (Marty on guitar/vocals, Natalie on vocals, Ryan on drums/vocals, and Paul on bass) added me on keys/guitar/vocals and Steven Siler "pinch hitting" on bass/drums. For this gig I decided to trade in my vintage Randall half-stack guitar amp for a new Marshall Code 50 which was much smaller and made my Gold Top Les Paul sound even better. There was quite a variety of songs played and I took the opportunity to wear my Dwight Yoakam hat when we played "Fast As You".
