Enter The Dragon
by Mark Greenawalt

There was a rumor flying around that a friend of mine was finally interested in having her back painted.  I heard that she wanted a dragon and grinned at how appropriate it was for her since she is a beautiful Japanese girl with long black hair.  I called her up and the rumor proved to be true.  I set the wheels in motion and had her send me a calendar that showed the type of dragon that she was interested in having adorned on her.

In February, Airbrush Action magazine had asked me to write a "how-to" article on one of my body paintings and I thought this dragon painting would be a perfect fit.  Apparently the rumor spread that I was doing an article for the magazine and the next thing I know is that I am getting endorsements left and right.  I am happy to thank Mr. John Smith from Silentaire Technology for providing the Spectrum 2000 system that allowed me to load seven colors in the airbrush system and change between them with a turn of a switch.  He also got in touch with the folks at Iwata who sent me a brand new professional airbrush and then to top it all off he got in touch with the folks at Artool Products to provide the paint for the session.

To see more images and the "rough-draft" of the article that I plan to submit to Airbrush Action magazine, go to www.futureclassx.com/bodypaint/Naoka/dragon.htm .

The Night They Called "The Climax"
by Mark Greenawalt

They say that all good things must come to an end.  This month it was the end of the month-long exotic art show at the Alwun House in Phoenix.  Closing night had been dubbed "The Climax" and I once again had the opportunity to be a part of the festivities.  Throughout the course of the night I completed four bodypaintings and made several new contacts.  The day started at mid-afternoon with the gorgeous model named Alison from Tempe, Arizona.  She actually counts for two of the bodypaintings since I painted a Sedona scene on her back and a sunburst on her front.  Alison is incredibly talented with finding the right poses and knowing when to shift for the next shot.  I look forward to working with her again sometime.  You can see her paintings on my bodypainting page.

The next painting was for the dance/music/theatrical group called Infinite Momentum.  One member of the act, named Travis, performs in the show as he spins fire on the end of chains with awesome precision.  His part called for a body painting to give him the appearance of the devil.  Another member of the group, Rick West, brought along horns to glue to Travis's head to leave no doubt as to who he was supposed to be.  Rick is another bodypainter here in the valley that I met through this Alwun House event and you can check out his web site at http://www.impulsedata.net/~www/ .  The group has asked me to be a part of an upcoming show on April 15th, but I don't know any of the details yet.

And the last painting of the night was with my most committed model, and new friend, Kay.  Kay was the model for the original Queen of Spades painting and then for the subsequent Queen of Hearts painting.  This nights painting was a little quicker, but actually turned out quite nice.  It is the picture of the Monarch butterfly on the bodypainting page.  Thank you very much Kay for helping to build my portfolio.

More Bullet Items
by Mark Greenawalt

-I just bought the latest copy of Airbrush Action magazine today and found a cool article on body painting by Tobi Britton.  She is the instructor that I assisted during the Las Vegas body art seminar.  You can visit her site at Tobi Britton's The Make Up Shop.  On a sad note, I heard that her mother passed away last month so my condolences go out to Tobi.

-Good luck to Toni Jures as she moves "back east".  She is the model who posed for the 2001 body painting.  We tried to squeeze another painting in before she had to leave, but it doesn't look like our schedules will allow it.  She'll just have to come back to visit sometime.

-Our friends Ed & Connie just got back from Jamaica where they spent their honeymoon at Hedonism III.  They brought back pictures of several women who were bodypainted by the resident bodypainter for the resort...now that sounds like a job that I could handle.
