It's no secret that I love to travel and this year I had a magnificent trip that started off in Rome, Italy. My travel buddies were three beautiful women in my life: my wife Lori, my sister-in-law Debbie, and my neice Stacey. Plus we were able to meet up with a super close family friend Jordan and his wife Kayley, who are currently stationed in the military in Italy. We visited quite a few of the must-see locations like the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon, and the Spanish Stairs, but we decided to go out of town for our second day and took a train and boat ride to the Amalifi Coast. I got a taste for the local flair with Aperol Spritz in Positano overlooking the cliff side village. I took so many pictures of all of this so I'll probably be editing a couple at a time for the next couple of years! I get to check off visiting another national capital and drinking a local beer from yet another country. Also...when in Rome...we got out of town and visited St. Peter's Cathedral in the Vatican (I think that counts for visiting another national capital!).
Same trip...different country. This one had two stops too, Barcelona and yes, another national capital, Madrid. The highlight of Barcelona was absolutely the Basílica de la Sagrada Família. The center 'Tower of Jesus' was topped out just a few weeks before we arrived, making this the tallest church in the world! The interior is just as spectacular with the colors of the stained glass painting the tree-like columns with specturms of color. Other Barcelona memories included walking the beach down to the W Hotel, touring Montjuïc Castle on the hill and having drinks at the 1992 Olymic pool overlooking the city skyline, touring the breathtaking Barcelona Cathedral and then walking backwards under the skull of Bishops Bridge in the Gothic Quarter.
A highlight from Madrid was the relocated Egyptian Temple of Debod that was just a short walk from our hotel. I felt a New York City vibe wandering the downtown streets and entering Retiro Park. Overall the weather was fantastic at the beginning of May, but our last day did have sporatic rain showers that we timed perfectly with beer tent locations in the park. The Crystal Palace was under construction, but we wondered through the rose garden and all around the lake at Retiro Park. I did get some shots of the capital building for my collection and some wonderful shots of the city at night. There was plenty of other things to do in Madrid such as museums and palaces, but we slowed down the pace a bit and enjoyed the food, spirits, and each other's company. It was a great trip and wow, I have so many pictures still to go through!
I have decided to separate my photography that has been under the moniker of 'Mark Greenawalt Fine Art' and rebrand it to Greenawalt Gallery. This is the new logo and there is a new website at GreenawaltGallery.com that has all of my photos that are "suitable" for wall art available as fine art prints in canvas or metal. My bodypainting work and concert photography will remain on the MarkGreenawalt.com website along with many of my other endeavors like songwriting, fantasy illustration, writing, and lighting design and engineering projects. I'm still working on updating all of the images at Greenawalt Gallery to be increased in size to 2000 pixels and to have the new logo and website watermark, but it is getting there. I've also updated the instagram page and the YouTube channel to the new branding so the identity is getting there too.
I have started a new mailing list for Greenawalt Gallery and I'd love to have you on that one as well. It won't be a monthly newsletter, per se, but more an announcement page of discounts, showings, and possibly new works. I will be doing a drawing for a free 12"X18" metal print from the first 100 to join the new list and I will be giving free desktop calendars to the first 10 to join. The signup form is on the contact page of the new website.
