My longtime friend Ed Clapper and I used to play as an acoustic duo around the Phoenix Metro area before I took off and moved to Nashville. That was many years ago, so it was pretty cool when we had the opportunity to take the stage together again. He has been playing shows under the moniker of Eddie Unplugged and his booking agency was offering up gigs for duos. The caviat was that one of the members of the duo had to be a percussionist. Although that might not be my strongest suit, I had gotten a little proficient and playing the cajon at backyard parties. I invested in a speaker stand to mount the cajon so that I could stand to play it, which made singing easier than being hunched over sitting on the cajon. The gig was at The Pedal Haus Brewery in Chandler and I think it went pretty well. Hopefully there will be more of these gigs in the near future.
Well, I can't say that my time set up at The Painted Tree in the Scottsdale Promenade Shopping Plaza was ever successful, but it was still a harsh shock when they went bankrupt and closed all of their stores nationwide. I had paid for the two years that I was there up front at the beginning of each year, so when they closed I assumed that I will never get back the money for the months that I prepaid. Although it was never a money maker for me, it was still a great experience to have a 'brick and mortar' gallery store to show my photography and sell prints of my work. The cell phone pics above show my set up at day one, during its prime, and at the end. I did sell a couple of large pieces and even broke even a couple of months. It was enjoyable making the racks to showcase my post cards and greeting cards and hopefully I got my name and brand in front of quite a few visitors to the store. I think it would be cool to have a gallery store like that again, but I may try my hand at some of the art festivals instead for a while, along with making strides to make my website more profitable too. So goodbye to The Painted Tree, it's been an experience!
My brother took me to an All American Rejects concert at Chase Field and a Diamondbacks baseball game broke out. It was my 59th birthday on April 4th and this was a good way to celebrate with my brother rooting for his Atlanta Braves and me rooting for our hometown D-backs! We won, by the way. I did video the first song with my iPhone which happened to be 'Dirty Little Secrect.' Here is a link if you want to check it out:
