Aurora Revisits Arizona and Super Moon
by Mark Greenawalt

Aurora Borealis in Arizona with Saguaro Cactus The Beaver Full Super Moon Rising near Four Peaks at Saguaro Lake

I thought it was a once in a lifetime event when the Aurora Borealis came all the way to Arizona back in May of 2024, but it came again this month. It wasn't quite as intense, but luckily I was able to get out of the city lights near Saguaro Lake and get a few shots with purlples and pinks in the northern sky. My dedication lasted until about 3am on a work night until I finally threw in the towel, but I got a few images that came out pretty cool. I have focused on getting Saguaro cacti in the shot since that points out the dichotomy of Norther Lights in the Southwest. As an added bonus, this month had a beautiful full Supermoon. I took the Bush Highway to the Water Users Recreation Park which gave a nice view of the Mazatzal Mountain Range where the 'Beaver' full super moon rose just right of Four Peaks.

Review - Matteo Bocelli At Mesa Arts Center
by Mark Greenawalt

Matteo Bocelli live concert in Mesa Arts Center's Ikeda Theater.

I wrote another concert review with Burning Hot Events. It was a night with Matteo Bocelli, the son of Andrea Bocelli. Here is how the article starts, then click on the photo if you'd like to read more and check out the photo gallery by Editor-in-Chief, Katherine Amy Vega.

"The Ikeda Theater at the Mesa Arts Center showcases the highest level of elite performers and so attracts refined audiences who appreciate talent and bask in emotional experiences. On this Sunday evening, the house was again packed and everyone was dressed to the nines to see Matteo Bocelli, a young Italian who carries the surname of vocal royalty. He has been traveling the world to showcase his own signature sound and to earn the prestige associated with the name..."

Peralta Trail To Weaver's Needle
by Mark Greenawalt

Weaver's Needle from the Fremont Saddle of Peralta Trail in the Superstition Mountains Snail Rock formation along Peralta Trail in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona

I took a hike this month on Peralta Trail in the Superstition Mountains with my wife Lori, my brother Curt, and my sister-in-law Jean. It was a little more strenuous of a trail than I had remembered, but I'm thrilled to take advantage of these opportunities while I still can. We made it to Fremont Saddle for the view of Weaver's Needle and on the way back down, I got this shot of this rock that looks like a snail. Notice the converging lines lead to the rock formation that looks like a snail (some say a turtle) in the middle of the shot. From the wildflowers in the foreground and past the hoodoos on the right, the depth of this image is amazing as it fades into the misty mountains in the far distance.
