| VOL 20 ISSUE 6 | JUNE 2025 |
If you weren't able to get to our Bodypainting Extravaganza at Phoenix Fan Fusion this year, here is a taste of what each of models looked like for our Goth Glam theme. Thank you to everyone who was able to make it out and especially thank you to the artists and models that made it happen. Pictured above (left to right) is Violet Pixie (painted by Brandy Wise), Elley Ringo (painted by me), Dorian Hendricks (painted by Brandon McGill), Mariah (painted by Papi Miranda), and Natalie Woods (painted by Carrie Esser). Each of the 5 teams had about 2 hours to complete their body art masterpiece before the models took their turn on the runway and into the final photoshoot. Then the models went home and washed the art away!
Our event shifted from Friday to Saturday night this year, June 6th, which put us up against the masquerade, but we still had a packed room throughout the evening. Also a shout out to my team of my model Elley Ringo, Sav Greenawalt who painted her with me, Sage Ryan Greenawalt who helped with sound and photo lighting, and the duo of Zane Greenawalt and Alena Oas who ran the merch table.
Besides hosting the Bodypainting Extravaganza at Phoenix Fan Fusion I was also doing event photography with Geek News Network. I made a YouTube video of my process and a slideshow of some of the images that I shot that can be found here https://youtu.be/cUSo8j7MZPE?si=TtyLW2M4eqnrijw3. My absolute favorite pic from the event was this shot of the four hobbits from Lord of the Rings (Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Sean Astin, and Frodo himself Elijah Wood). If The Shire had a Mt. Rushmore, this would definitely be it. I loved these characters immensely and they were very entertaining. Never thought I'd get a photo of them together.
Thank you to Hong Le for including me on the GNN team and thank to PFF for hosting such a cool event here in Phoenix. The celebrities I photographed included Anthony Daniels, John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Sean Astin, Elijah Wood, Simon Peg, Jason Mewes, Ming Chen, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Maggie Robertson, Vincent D'Onofrio, Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Paige O'Hara, Rainn Wilson,
and Ming-Na Wen.
June was filled with highlights that included awards in three different genres: Lighting Design, Photography, and Songwriting.
First up is the International IES Illumination Award of Merit for the interior lighting design of the Heard Museum renovation of the Gallery Store. The design team also included Tatiana Wells and Walter Spitz from Creative Designs in Lighting. This project also took home the Award of Distinction in the Phoenix Chapter's Illumination Awards. If you'd like to see the more images of the award winning project, it is on the CDL website at https://cdltg.com/portfolio/the-heard-museum-shop/.
Next was the 1st Place Award in GM Lighting's 2025 Amazing Appplication Photo Contest. This award was for the architectural photos I took of the recent renovation at The Arizona Center in downtown Phoenix. I had specified GM Lighting's LED tape light product on the laser cut steel panels at the Arizona Center and it really did bring a fun splash of color to the project. You can see some of the photos on GM's site at https://www.gmlighting.net/imagegallery/1st-place-winner-cascadia-sales-kelly-hanson-2-3-2-2/
And thirdly, the film 'Taking Your Crack At Filmmaking continues to bring in accolades from countless international film festivals. Among the many laurels for best film, there have also been plenty of awards recognizing the people involved. This is the second film festival that recognized my contribution of my song 'Ride The Coast.' The Good Vibes International Film Festival is located in India and this recognition of 'Best Original Sound' is really heart warming. Unfortunately I can't provide a link to watch the movie yet since it is still making it's way through the film festival circuit, but I hope you get to see it eventually!
October - Teotiuacan and Mexico City.
