Bodypainting at the LepreCon 32 Sci-Fi Convention
by Mark Greenawalt

Bodypainting of Robert Heinlein cover I Will Fear No Evil Star Wars Legacy Sith Twi'lek Darth Talon This was the fifth year in a row that I did sci-fi bodypainting presentations at the Phoenix based LepreCon convention.  This year I did a live rendition of the cover art of Robert A. Heinlein's novel "I Will Fear No Evil."  This was done in conjunction with a blood drive in honor of Heinlein that was produced by the Heinlein Society and administered by United Blood Services.  I proud to say that I had the opportunity to donate my blood while I was there.  It's a great feeling, try it sometime.

My second project was a bodypainting of the new Star Wars Legacy comic book character Darth Talon.  Courtney Black was the model for the project in addition to being the costumer for all of the real clothes.  The red and black body paint are reminiscent of the Sith character Darth Maul and as fate would have it, Darth Maul visited our showcase, courtesy of Steve Colston.  For more images from the project and the more detailed story, please visit http://www.futureclassx.com/bodypaint/courtney/twilek/leprecon32.htm .

Cinco De Mayo at Barcelona with FHM and Dos Equies
by Mark Greenawalt

Barcelona Nightclub in Scottsdale, Arizona held a fantastic themed party for the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo.  The ambiance was enhanced by roaming four roaming drummers playing tribal beats under the glow of tiki lamps.  My part in the production was to paint the drummers with Aztec and Mayan designs to help authenticate their costumes for the event.  I found the gig through an ad placed on www.craigslist.com by LA Event Entertainment Productions (LEEP), the same people who produce the Bijou burlesque shows in Los Angeles.

I was wonderfully surprised to learn that Sarah Bowers (also known as Sarah Elizabeth) was flown in from Florida for the event to represent FHM magazine.  It was great to see her and congratulate her in person for her appearance in Playboy magazine earlier this year.  I'm so proud to say that I knew her her "way back when".  For more pictures from the event and the rest of the story, please visit http://www.futureclassx.com/bodypaint/Sarah/mexicool/mexicool.htm .

Artist Spotlight Article for Contact Magazine on Tad Smith
by Mark Greenawalt

Contact Magazine article on Tad Smith of Studeo Tad The fourth issue of Contact Magazine has been released and I contributed one article to this edition.  It is an article about a very unique artist named Tad Smith who recently opened his own gallery in the heart of the Grand Avenue art district (sometimes referred to as New Grand Landing).  His background is in design and his artwork treads the line between fine art painting and three dimensional sculpture.  The gallery is called Studeo Tad and his exhibitions include not only his own work, but also an array of artistic pieces from a diverse selection of valley artisans.  To read the article, either visit the Contact Magazine website at http://www.contact-mag.com/issue4/artist.htm or click on the image above to read the article on this website.
